The Storm

Lightning strikes the earth
Fire blazes up amidst the pouring rain
Thunder crashes through the black sky
Filling the night with a powerful heartbeat

A storm as thick as honey
Blazed a wall across the land
The air is warm and wet
But its heart is cold and bitter

Lightning strikes with a flash of fury
It ignites the land with its livid fire
The thunder rolls with booms of power
Exercising ravenous ambition
Wind whistles with foreboding
Telling away the light
Rain falls unceasing
Its everlasting hiss bearing up the storm

Elements swarm
Destroying in their fury

At the precise moment
When hope begins to flee
Light breaks into dawn
The black clouds wither
The thunder silences
The lightning hesitates
The wind takes flight
And with it goes the rain

The everlasting darkness
Now ceases to last

The unending rain
Now ends with the rest

This malevolent storm
Now retreats in haste
In fear of the light
Casting it down once more

Alright, I have NO IDEA where that poem came from. I haven't worked on my short story since yesterday and I had instrumental music on in the background. (Lyrics inspire me.) So I think this means I might actually climb out of the rut and give a non-routine back story this time! But of course, when I get the chance, there's no story behind the poem. Yeah, that figures. So, this came out of NOWHERE. I can see now how it relates to my personal values, but that was my subconscious talking. I also (involuntarily) added my religious standpoints in here- metaphorically, of course. This comes out as being the story how God will always conquer evil in the world and heaven will always triumph in the end.
Ha! So I guess I have to try this "impromptu" thing again. That was probably the first time I had to decipher my own poem, so I don't know if it's my subconscious writing this like I think it is, or if it's just the fact that I was supposed to go to bed twenty minutes ago.
